When my sister, the talented photographer behind Casey Thomas Photography, asked me to be her second shooter for a family photoshoot with my adorable niece, I was excited to say the least. Not only do I love any opportunity to hang out with my family, but I also saw this as a chance to learn from a pro and contribute to capturing some precious memories. Little did I know just how much I'd learn about the value of both having and being second-shooter and the magic that happens when two photographers collaborate!
Let's be honest, my niece is the cutest kid on the planet (okay, maybe I'm a little biased). But how can you resist photographing someone with so much energy and adorableness in such a little body?! We certainly had a lot of fun on the beautiful Jupiter Beach. It was a picture-perfect setting. While the weather was less than desirable, my niece compensated by being full of energy and smiles.
Being the second shooter is like being a ninja of the photography world. You're there, you're involved, but you're also blending into the background, anticipating needs, and capturing those special moments that might otherwise be lost and forgotten. Having the chance to second shoot also allowed me to capture a whole new perspective for my sister and provide some much-appreciated behind-the-scenes shots of her in her element.
